Serco Facilities Management (formerly Facilities First Australia) have partnered with The Kids’ Cancer Project since 2018 providing incredible support throughout various fundraising initiatives most notably, the annual national Write a Book in a Day competition.

The national cleaning and maintenance service has committed funds to promote the literary competition that not only challenges participants to produce an illustrated story book in 12 hours for children in hospital, but also requires them to raise funds for childhood cancer research. “As a provider that has been around for over two decades, we’ve managed to hone in on the one consistent factor that will always be relevant – care,” said Ben Bayot, SFA CEO. As part of their partnership, Serco Facilities Management covered the entry fee to enter the competition for over 220 schools giving kids the opportunity to work together with their classmates to write a book for sick kids living with cancer.

Owen Finegan, The Kids’ Cancer Project CEO, said this was an excellent example of corporate philanthropy in action. “Support from Ben and all the team at Serco Facilities Management allow The Kids’ Cancer Project to support bold science that has the greatest chance of clinical success to improve childhood cancer treatments”, said Owen. “The partnership has grown over the five years and Serco Facilities Management are always looking for new ways to support The Kids’ Cancer Project. Everyone at The Kids’ Cancer Project is extremely proud of the partnership with Serco Facilities Management”.

Since the partnership began in 2018, Serco Facilities Management have been generous supporters of The Kids’ Cancer Project with regular attendance at various corporate events including Golf Days and the flagship charity fundraiser, Christmas for a Cure. In addition, Serco Facilities Management also sourced prizing for The Kids’ Cancer Project’s Big Bids for Kids online auctions. These in-kind donations have been integral to the success of each of these events and helped generate significant funds to find better treatments for kids living with cancer.

Each year in the lead up to Christmas, Serco Facilities Management engage their staff to support The Kids’ Cancer Project’s Christmas Bear Drive. Thanks to the generosity and donations of the Serco Facilities Management staff, the bears purchased in the campaign are delivered to sick kids in hospitals all around Australia in an effort to provide a cuddly friend and brighten up their stay in hospital.

In 2021, Serco Facilities Management participated in The Kids’ Cancer Project’s inaugural national fundraising campaign The Better Challenge. Participants walk, run or roll 90kms over the month of September in support of the 90 children in Australia diagnosed with cancer every month. The Serco Facilities Management team ended the campaign among the top corporate supporters, raising over $40,000 for childhood cancer research!

This long standing partnership between The Kids' Cancer Project and Serco Facilities Management has raised over $110,000. The funds will support two RACP scholarships to advance the career of young scientists and future proof childhood cancer research in Australia.

The Kids’ Cancer Project look forward to continuing the partnership with Serco Facilities Management and working together to fund bold, innovative science that will positively impact the lives of Aussie kids with cancer.
