Super Sentis – Brisbane Company Takes on Write a Book in a Day Challenge

A huge thank you to the wonderful team at Sentis for taking part in the challenge, and of course for raising $900 to help support research into more effective treatments for childhood cancer.

A huge thank you to the wonderful team at Sentis for taking part in the challenge, and of course for raising $900 to help support research into more effective treatments for childhood cancer.

Usually, Write a Book in a Day takes place between May and September, giving schools and open teams an opportunity to flex their creativity, compete for the coveted best book award, and raise vital funds for childhood cancer research over the winter months.

However, unable to contain her office’s creative energy, Cassie Boulter from Sentis, reached out to us to arrange a custom activity for their off-site team-building day. But beyond giving her team time to flex their imaginations, the challenge would also be a force for good. She says

“I’ve worked with The Kids’ Cancer Project on other events for previous workplaces and enjoyed being able to support such a great cause. Sentis has a key value of ‘show we care’ so working with The Kids’ Cancer Project fits perfectly for our team learning and bonding events.

“Cancer has affected my family and I know it has a major impact on so many other families – so being able to support kids’ cancer research is really important to me, and everyone at Sentis.”

Six teams spent three and a half hours off-site plotting, writing and illustrating based on the criteria provided by The Kids’ Cancer Project’s Write a Book in a Day team. Keywords, themes, and characters were prescribed to help guide the budding novelists develop their books, a process that was greatly enjoyed by all. Cassie adds:

 

“I loved taking part in the challenge as not only was it for a great cause, but I loved that the books go back to sick children in hospital to read.

“It was so fun to work with colleagues that I don’t usually work with – that really made for great team bonding. Seeing the creative side of my workmates and their hidden talents was amazing and a few have even gone on to take up drawing or writing as a hobby for themselves.”

But there could only be one winner! A huge congratulations to team ‘Gazza’s friend, Sentis’ whose book Gazza Makes a Friend was selected by The Kids’ Cancer Project’s CEO, Owen Finegan, as the winner. Upon winning, the team very generously donated their prizes, some cuddly bears, to sick kids in hospital – a lovely and very appreciated gesture.

Not only did the teams who took part have a fantastic day of unique team building, but they also raised $900 to help fund vital research into childhood cancers. Only with the support of kind people, like those at Sentis, can we achieve our vision of all children surviving cancer. A massive thank you to the team at Sentis for taking part and we hope to see you again next year!
